Our first appointment provides us with the opportunity to meet and discuss the difficulties impacting you or your family. During this time, I will aim to get a better understanding of how the problem or issue started and what might be keeping it going. We allow 90 minutes for the initial appointment. However, the assessment process usually takes 1-2 sessions and by the end we should have an idea of what sort of treatment approach might be helpful and how many sessions you might need. The number of therapy sessions required varies depending on your individual needs and goals.
During subsequent therapy sessions we will regularly review your progress to make sure we are covering what is most important to you and are working towards your goals. As therapy progresses, the focus will be on supporting you to develop the psychological skills necessary to manage your difficulties more effectively.
Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly or less frequently depending on your needs and this is something we can decide on together.
Information that we discuss is confidential. Like other psychologists, I am bound by ethical and legal guidelines that prevent me from sharing what you have said without your consent. An exception to this is if I think that you or another person might be at risk of harm. If this is the case, I will need to notify appropriate people to keep you and others safe.
